NL East Baseball
Betting Preview 2007Everybody believed that the New York Mets were a shoe-in to make the World Series last year. Maybe they would have been if any of the other teams made a valiant fight to keep the Mets momentum alive. In our 2006 National League Predictions, we made the claim that the Mets would win the division because of Delgado and Wagner. But it was their entire pitching staff and the maturation of their second baseman that was all they needed.
New York Mets
The Mets definitely surprised gamblers by going +20 units on the season (counting the playoffs). The Mets were +9 at home and +11 units on the road. But it was against lefties that these Mets struggled in 2006. They were -2 units against lefties. In 2007, look to bet them against right handed pitching.
Atlanta Braves
For the first time since I was born (exaggeration), these Braves did not win their division. A lot of it had to do with the departure of their pitching coach. We believe that these Braves will get even worse next year! They have been dropping in wins each of the past 4 seasons. They were only 4 games behind 500 last year. And we expect them to be around 7 games behind 500.
Philadelphia Phillies
These Phillies have been consistent each of the past 4 seasons. With 86, 86, 88, 85 wins but they have not been able to break the ice and get into the playoffs. A lot of that has to do with division competition and the Phillies always barely missing the Wild Card.
Washington Nationals
These Nationals may become the wild card in 2007. They could be a surprise team and we can thank their pitching for that.
Florida Marlins
Despite droppiing by 5 wins, these Marlins were a profitable ball club in 2006. They won their backers 3 units instead of losing them 16. A lot of it had to do with the perception that these Marlins are a horrible team. They were horrible against lefties though by losing their backers 8 units. Big difference from the previous 3 seasons in which they boasted a 60+% record against lefties and came out +21 units. We expect them to become profitable against lefties again this season.
