4 of the top 5 teams are from the National League. The surprise teams on the list are the Dodgers, Braves, Brewers, and Orioles.
Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers are flat out doing well this season in almost every category except maybe when they are facing lefties. They are still positive units but not by much [3-2, +0.80 units]. The Dodgers win with pitching because their hitting is a liability. So if you are looking to bet on the Dodgers, make sure that their hitters are not going to disappoint you with 1 run or something similar.
Atlanta Braves. Although these Braves are at +3 units this season, would you believe that they are negative units off of a win? It is true, they are [6-4, -0.2 units] off of a win. So these Braves are definitely worth looking into in games where they are off of a loss and looking for revenge. We say revenge because these Braves have not played terribly well in the first game of a series [2-3, -2.0 units]. This could just be because of the travel fatigue factor. Early in the season, these ball players are not used to travelling so it important to understand that this will probably become a non-factor at some point when the season becomes a bit more mature and the players are used to daily grind of baseball.
Milwaukee Brewers. Despite the Brewers sitting pretty at [9-6, +3 units] this season, they are [0-3, -3 units] when facing a right handed pitcher provided that they faced a lefty pitcher the night before. But pitcher orientation really does make a huge difference in ball games and this causes the Brewers to stink it up a little bit. In fact, if you consider that they are 9-3 in all other games, they could be the ones we are all talking about having a chance at the NL pennant. A good surprise team to bet your money on if they can continue to play well. Because if this is the only downfall of this team, you have got to like their chances late in the season when pitchers are worn out anyways.
Baltimore Orioles. When you consider that the Orioles are near 500 but still plus money, this is a very good sign that they are being undervalued. The sportsbooks will soon readjust but they will not do so in every possible case. So you need to be looking out for this team this season. If you take a deeper look into their record, you will notice they are not very good against non-divisional rivals [4-5, -1units]. Against dvisional rivals is where they have excelled. Also, they are not very good as an underdog [4-6, -0.49]. They are also not very good against lefties after going against a righty [1-3, -2 units]. So basically what we see is to look for the Baltimore Orioles in decent spots at home as a favorite against right handed pitching. We will not focus too much on the division/non-divisional rival jargon as that will be evened out once the sportsbooks get a better understanding of all the teams.
